Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has suggested in The Daily Record that Martin Skrtel would not be a good signing for Rangers.

According to The Daily Record, Rangers are interested in signing former Liverpool defender Skrtel from Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard, who has been appointed the Rangers manager and will take charge of the Gers’ first team from next month, played with the Slovakia international defender at Liverpool.

Former Celtic striker Sutton does not believe that the 33-year-old centre-back would be a good signing for Rangers, pointing that Bruno Alves was expected to be good for the Gers.

Rangers signed the 36-year-old Portugal international central defender in the summer of 2017, but the former Zenit Saint Petersburg has not had a great campaign on a personal level.

Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “Record Sport exclusively revealed Martin Skrtel is a target but again you’re taking ageing players. We thought Bruno Alves would be a good signing.”

Fair warning?

Skrtel is past his prime at the age of 33, but the Slovakia international centre-back would be a good signing for Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool defender is still playing at a major domestic football league in Turkey, and Rangers could get two good years out of him.

Rangers fans also want the Ibrox club to sign Skrtel, as reported on HITC Sport.
