Chris Sutton thinks things aren’t all well at Newcastle United.
When you look at the Premier League table, Newcastle are sitting fifth in the table and they are unbeaten after three matches.
On that basis, you would think Eddie Howe would have the biggest smile on his face, but you should think otherwise.
Newcastle’s summer transfer window didn’t go as planned and it has left a few dark clouds over St James’ Park.
The man the Magpies wanted was Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but despite all that transfer noise around him, he remained professional and continued to perform for his club.
Newcastle had record bids turned down for Guehi and Chris Sutton thinks it’s ‘fascinating’ what is going on at the club.
The former striker highlighted how Guehi was Howe’s ‘number one target’, but the powers that be didn’t manage to secure his signature and now he feels fans are ‘concerned’.
But what would be an even bigger worry for the Toon Army is that Sutton feels Howe could head for the exit door.
Lee Carsley is currently in interim charge of England after Gareth Southgate resigned after their defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.
Howe has been linked with the England job and Sutton can see the Englishman taking that role when the FA look for a permanent successor, as he told 606.
Eddie Howe tipped to leave Newcastle United
“It’s fascinating what’s going on at Newcastle, at this moment in time,” said Sutton. “From the outside, and I am not on the inside at Newcastle, if I am a Newcastle fan, then there are alarm bells ringing.
“He (Howe) seems to make Marc Guehi his number one target. They didn’t get that over the line. He spoke about concerns in the summer that they weren’t in alignment, the club hierarchy and Eddie Howe.
“It wouldn’t be a great surprise to see Eddie Howe as the next England manager. Newcastle fans must be concerned. What happens next at Newcastle?”

Anthony Gordon stars for England
Newcastle fans don’t want to hear it, but if Howe becomes England boss then he will have some serious talent to work with.
Anthony Gordon starred for England against Ireland and he is someone who would benefit from Howe taking that job.

Look, Howe isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but you feel, in January and next summer, the club need to back their manager properly, or else, they will lose their main man.
