Chris Sutton has said on BT Sports 1 (10:27pm, April 22, 2021) that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers should automatically qualify for the Champions League.
The former Celtic striker made the comments about Rangers while discussing Scottish clubs not having enough teams in the Champions League.
Sutton pointed out how many games Celtic had to play to get into the Champions League under then manager Brendan Rodgers, who is now in charge of Leicester City in the Premier League.
The Englishman believes that Rangers should not have to go though qualifiers to play in the Champions League next season.
Rangers have won the Scottish Premiership title this season and will enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round.
Sutton said on BT Sports 1 (10:27pm, April 22, 2021): “I think Brendan Rodgers when his team were the Invincibles of Scotland had eight ties to play through qualification. Rangers should be in the Champions League automatically this season. I do not get that.”

Positive from Chris Sutton
Sutton is a former Celtic striker, and it is not often that the Englishman makes positive remarks about Rangers.
It is very nice of Sutton to back Rangers to get a Champions League place automatically as the champions of Scotland.
It is not going to happen next season, but perhaps in the coming years things will change and the Scottish champions will automatically qualify for the Champions League.
