Former WWE superstar Daniel Bryan, who now wrestles under the name Bryan Danielson, apparently wasn’t a favourite of Vince McMahon.

Bryan, some fans will argue, is one of the best in-ring wrestlers to have stepped inside a WWE ring for many years.

However, his time with the now TKO-owned company certainly had its ups and downs, including losing an 18-second squash match at WrestleMania 28 for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Now, Chris Jericho has been speaking about Daniel Bryan this week and claimed one of the reasons Vince did not like him was because he was vegan.

Chris Jericho claims Vince McMahon didn’t like Daniel Bryan

Speaking on his Talk is Jericho podcast, the former WWE superstar explained: “He [Vince] didn’t like Bryan because Bryan was a vegan.”

Jericho went on to claim there were other reasons as well, but did not say what they were.

He continued: “Classic Vince. There’s other reasons, but I remember that was one of [them]. ‘Doesn’t eat steak, ugh.’”

Despite perhaps not being Vince’s favourite wrestler, Bryan still enjoyed a very successful career in WWE.

Thanks to overwhelming fan support, he was placed into the main event of WrestleMania 30 alongside Randy Orton and Batista, winning the match to become champion again.

What Daniel Bryan said about joining AEW after WWE

Bryan’s stint with WWE eventually came to an end in 2021, with the multi-time WWE Champion then signing with AEW.

He has since spoken about why he opted to start working for Tony Khan’s company, pointing towards the reduced schedule as one factor.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet in December 2025, he said: “I didn’t know if WWE was going to start doing the live events and stuff again because that schedule, at that point, we had two kids, and I was like, I don’t want to do that schedule anymore.

“Like, at AEW, it’s just Wednesdays, at the time, it was just Wednesdays, and I was like that was a very appealing schedule to me, for my family.”
