It has been widely reported that the Ghanaian powerhouse is yet to agree a new contract at the Spanish capital. There is a good chance that he will leave Atleti this summer and Arsenal seem to be the frontrunners.

Partey has a release clause of £45 million in his contract. Arsenal are said to be interested in triggering that clause which would bring him to the Emirates in this summer’s transfer window. (The Telegraph)

Two weeks ago, we covered Edwin Gyasi’s comments about Partey’s future, where he urged the midfielder to move to Arsenal this summer. (Click here to read more)

Joseph Attamah Larweh, Partey’s childhood friend and international teammate, has spoken about the Atletico Madrid man’s future, and he too is of the same opinion as Gyasi.

Larweh told The Tracker on Citi Sports: I will be happy if he (Partey) goes to Arsenal. Thomas has done it all at Atletico and is well known as one of their best players.”

“He has to move forward to a different league to prove his worth there as well. He needs to let people know that he is capable of succeeding in other places and not just Spain”

It sure does seem like most of his international teammates would love for him to join Arsenal. The Gunners have a huge fan base in Africa but that alone will not convince Partey to make the switch.

Signing Partey will not be easy

Arsenal will likely be without Champions League football next season. The Gunners, like most other teams, will struggle for funds as well, which will make it almost impossible for them to pay his £45 million release clause in one go.

However, the same was said about Arsenal’s financial power last season before they went out and broke the bank to sign Nicolas Pepe from Lille for a club-record fee.

A lot will depend on where Arsenal finish in the Premier League at the end of the season. A good run in final games of the campaign could push them near the top-four, which will increase their chances of securing Partey’s signature.

However, a poor run could see them miss out on European football altogether, which would be disastrous to their transfer plans this summer.
