Former Tottenham, Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham, LA Galaxy and Inter Milan star Robbie Keane is one of the guests for tonight’s Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley – and Twitter can’t get enough of it.

The Irishman is one of a host of “football legends” invited to the showpiece final as Gareth Southgate’s side look to end 55 years of hurt and end Italy’s incredible long unbeaten run in internationals.

England are well represented with World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst there alongside former England captains David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, while Fabio Capello (also an ex-England manager), Alessandro Nesta and Gianluca Zambrotta are among the Italian guests.

HRH The Duke of Cambridge will also be there with his wife and son, while British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be there too – although hopefully this time he doesn’t put an England shirt on over his collar and tie.

However it was Keane’s inclusion on the list that raised eyebrows, even more so than Tom Cruise and Kate Moss, as fans were left scratching his head at his prominence on the list when “many other football legends” haven’t been name-checked.

As Wembley prepares for the conclusion to a fantastic tournament, there will be a reason (probably) for Keane being there and he might even have a role as part of UEFA’s delegation at the final.

Keane’s tendency to call his latest move a ‘boyhood dream’ earned him plenty of stick, with many joking his place as a guest at the Euro 2020 final was a boyhood dream come true for the Irishman.

Here are some of the comments from fans confused at Robbie Keane’s invite to the Euro 2020 final:
