Ian Wright has claimed that if he could choose an England player to ‘bring home’ and win the Euros tonight then it would be Everton’s, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as he told his own podcast.
The Everton striker hasn’t featured much for England at Euro 2020, but if selected in tonight’s squad, then he will be preparing himself for the biggest game of his life.
England are 120 minutes away, possibly penalties, from ending 55 years of hurt and winning a major trophy.
And Arsenal legend, Wright, shared he would pick Calvert-Lewin to be the man of the moment against Italy because of what he has been through.
“I was thinking the other day, ‘I wonder who it’s going to be?’,” said Wright. “If I could pick someone and say ‘you know what, I want you to have the moment where you bring it home for the country’.
“It would be Calvert-Lewin. It would be him because of the season he has had. The problems he has had coming through. When Lukaku left, ‘Oh, we have to buy a centre-forward, we have to find a centre-forward. We’ll never replace Lukaku’.
“Then he has played. He didn’t score goals. Then people will say things like ‘well, he’s never going to score enough goals’.
“Listen, man came with it last season. He got himself into this position. And I don’t believe that’s for no reason at all. There is something, for me, written for that guy to do. I feel that.”

Well, the stage is set for each and every one of these England players to write their names into the history books.
From star man Harry Kane to third-choice goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, every single one of them has played their part in reaching the final.
55 years ago, it was Sir Geoff Hurst who scored a hat-trick which led England to glory, dare an Englishman do the same tonight?
Either way, this is set to be an epic showdown and the biggest game in English football history since the 66′.
