Italian outlet CM claim Chelsea are the latest club to show interest in Lyon right-back Malo Gusto with Tottenham and Newcastle also said to be considering moves for the £35m-rated star – with Gusto’s contract situation up in the air.

Gusto, 19, broke into Lyon’s side last season and has gone on to clock up 54 senior appearances. The France U21 star has been superb for Lyon, even laying on six assists. But his deal ends in the summer of 2024, and a move is likely.

The Mail report that Newcastle have shown interest in Gusto, who they report is rated at £35million. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg claim that Manchester United and Tottenham are considering a move for the Lyon ace.

Now, CM state that Todd Boehly and Chelsea are also in the mix to land Gusto – as well as a number of European sides. CM say Tottenham, Newcastle, Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid want Gusto. He has the pick of Europe’s best.

Chelsea interested in Gusto: Tottenham, Newcastle also considering moves

Gusto is shining in French football. Often, dictating games from the right side of the defence. Able to play as a right-back, but with enough attacking intent to be a wing-back, too. But he is impressing, because he is a regular in the side.

So, he needs to join a club where he is going to play regularly. Kieran Trippier is first choice and crucial at Newcastle. Chelsea have Reece James and although injured, he remains first choice. Manchester United need a right-back.

But Aaron Wan-Bissaka is impressing of late and Diego Dalot has been decent. But, his best move, if he is to move to England, is surely Spurs. Antonio Conte wants a new player in that position – with Pedro Porro on top of his shortlist.

Djed Spence has come in but is yet to be trusted. Emerson Royal is seen as a weak link and Matt Doherty’s form has been up and down – with injury hampering his progress. A new wing-back is needed and Gusto might be perfect.
