Chelsea are now looking to sign Villarreal star Pau Torres after he rejected a summer move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Chelsea want to sign a central defender in the January transfer window or next summer.
Torres, as a naturally left-footed defender, is thought to be on their radar after glowing reports from scouts.
Torres rejected Tottenham move
Tottenham Hotspur have also been impressed with Torres and his displays for Villarreal.
AS claimed in August that Tottenham had actually agreed a €55million (£47million) deal with Villarreal for Torres.
However, Torres rejected the move, seemingly aiming for a bigger move to a Champions League club if he is going to leave the La Liga side.
Tottenham missing out could now allow Chelsea to swoop in with a deal that would leave many at Spurs gutted.

Kounde could be a similar tale
Tottenham also made a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, but he rejected them for similar reasons to Torres.
Marca suggested that Kounde snubbed Tottenham to try and play in the Champions League.
Fabrizio Romano then suggested that Chelsea had agreed personal terms with Kounde, but no deal was done.
If Chelsea sign either of these defenders, Tottenham would be left frustrated seeing their top targets turn out for their bitter rivals instead.
