TalkSPORT pundit Scott Minto has said that Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea should have signed James Maddison before he moved to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea player has noted on talkSPORT (9:14am, September 8, 2023) that James Maddison is doing extremely well at Tottenham Hotspur at the moment.

Maddison moved to Premier League club Tottenham from Championship club Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has scored two goals and given two assists in four Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this campaign.

Chelsea told about transfer mistake regarding Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison

Earlier this month, The Telegraph reported that Chelsea did not sign Maddison before he was 26.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners reportedly are signing players who are 25 and under.

Maddison will turn 27 in Novemver.

Minto said: “If it is a question of going up to 25 years of age and no more and Chelsea have lost out on the likes of James Maddison because of that, then I think that’s completely wrong because you should be guided by rather than rules.

“Maddison has already shown what a player he could be for Spurs.”

Chelsea should have moved for James Maddison

Chelsea were very busy in the summer transfer window and signed a number of players.

The youngsters could develop into world-class footballers in the coming years.

However, if Chelsea had the chance to sign James Maddison before he moved to Tottenham Hotspur, then they should have taken it.

Maddison is one of the best English playmakers around, and he would have made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

The £170,000-a-week (The Mirror) England international has made 167 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Maddison has scored 45 goals and given 34 assists in those games.
