Chelsea didn’t consider signing James Maddison this summer because the new Tottenham Hotspur star was out of their age range.

James Maddison is shining for Tottenham Hotspur but seemingly wasn’t even under consideration for a move to London rivals Chelsea this summer.

That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Chelsea simply refused to sign anybody over the age of 25 this summer.

Look through their signings and that certainly checks out.

The oldest signings were Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi and Robert Sanchez, who are all 25 at the time of writing.

Todd Boehly and co appear to be completely focused on signing young players with potential, which ruled out any move for Maddison.

The playmaker is already 26 and Chelsea seemingly didn’t even think about bringing him to West London.

Chelsea still appear to lack a bit of cutting edge under Mauricio Pochettino and are now turning to a youngster in Cole Palmer rather than Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur will be delighted with Chelsea stance on James Maddison

Chelsea’s loss is certainly Tottenham’s gain.

Maddison has been absolutely sensational in his first four Premier League games as a Tottenham player.

Maddison scored a superb goal against Burnley on Saturday afternoon and has already bagged two goals and two assists in four games for Spurs.

The 26-year-old is taking on a vital role for Tottenham, serving as the chief creator under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Maddison was always likely to leave Leicester following their relegation from the Premier League and Tottenham were happy to pounce.

The £40million Tottenham paid now looks like a great bit of business given the money flying around for midfielders this summer.

If you ask Spurs fans if they would rather have Maddison or Cole Palmer – who cost similar fees – then there would probably only be one answer.
