Academy staff at Chelsea are now pushing the Stamford Bridge natives to keep Conor Gallagher in west London against interest from Tottenham Hotspur in his late transfer.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that academy staff have informed Chelsea of their feelings about cashing in on Gallagher. They also let their disappointment at the sale of Mason Mount be known at Cobham. While Lewis Hall’s recent exit intensified their upset.

Chelsea have annoyed those in charge of developing their homegrown talents by repeatedly showing ‘one of our own’ the door. Offloading Mount to Manchester United has particularly created division in their ranks. Academy staff believe he was the shining light for their gems.

Chelsea’s academy are loath to see Conor Gallagher seal a transfer

Sending Hall to Newcastle United and, potentially, also offloading Gallagher has also brought further consequences at the junior level. Their youth staff fear the Blues are a less appealing prospect with players signed only a few years older than those at the peak of their academy.

So, to ensure they can still display a pathway to their first-team, Chelsea’s academy staff are now urging Stamford Bridge chiefs against sanctioning a last-ditch transfer for Gallagher. He may yet still leave west London before next Friday night’s deadline for Premier League sides.

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Conor Gallagher

Chelsea can also further frustrate their academy staff should they agree to sell Gallagher to Tottenham in a last-ditch transfer. Ben Jacobs reports that Spurs remain interested in a late swoop to sign the 23-year-old. But the Blues are demanding £45-50m to let him leave now.

West Ham United are also a very realistic destination for the seven-cap England midfielder, whom Thomas Tuchel has called ‘fantastic’. The arrivals of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are set to start costing Gallagher minutes under Mauricio Pochettino having recently joined.

Brighton & Hove Albion have also shown interest in rivalling West Ham and Tottenham for Gallagher’s transfer from Chelsea. Yet the Seagulls did not discuss his situation during their negotiations over Caicedo’s switch. They fear his wage demands will prove too prohibitive.

A return to Crystal Palace after his productive loan spell in 2021/22 is also possible, per The Sun. But Gallagher wants to stay and fight for his future at Chelsea against interest from the Eagles and Tottenham. He is determined to stay put and has a contract there to June 2025.
