Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:20pm, March 14, 2022) that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could leave amid reported interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Liverpool defender has said that if Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel continues to play Kai Havertz as the main striker, then Lukaku will leave the Blues at the end of the season.
Carragher made the comments while analysing Chelsea’s win against Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend.
Eurosport reported in February that Tottenham could sign Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
We covered the report here on HITC Sport.
Carragher said on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League (7:20pm, March 14, 2022): “If this situation continues with Havertz as the main striker, I think Lukaku will be out next season. I think he will have to move on. I don’t think he is a guy you can have on the bench and use him sporadically. I think he will be moving on.”

Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku would be brilliant for Tottenham
In our view, Lukaku would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham and would make Conte’s side better and more potent in attack.
Now, of course, at the moment, Chelsea cannot buy or sell any players, but it is likely that the Blues will get new owners sooner rather than later.
Lukaku is at the top of his game now, and the former Manchester United striker will surely evaluate his future at the end of the season if his situation does not improve.
The striker worked with Conte at Inter and won the Serie A title last season.
The 28-year-old striker has made 12 starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea so far this season.
Lukaku has scored five goals in those games.
