According to Eurosport, Tottenham could sign Romelu Lukaku as his situation at Chelsea goes from bad to worse.

What’s the story?

Well, Lukaku started the season well with three goals in his first three Premier League games, after he sealed a £97.5m return to Chelsea back in August – a club-record fee for the Blues.

However, the Belgium international could now end up at Spurs.

Eurosport explain how Lukaku was left on the bench by Thomas Tuchel in Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash with Lille.

It is also said that the German did not want the 28-year-old at Chelsea, and their relationship is now unresolvable.

That’s where Tottenham are mentioned.

Lukaku enjoyed a fine season under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan last term, scoring 30 goals in all competitions as they won the Serie A title.

Should his situation at Stamford Bridge remain the same, Eurosport believe Spurs could offer him a way out of west London.

Tottenham should avoid Romelu Lukaku

In our view, this is too risky for Tottenham.

Lukaku wouldn’t be cheap, as Chelsea would presumably aim to recoup as much of that £97.5m sum as possible.

The former Everton man also earns an eye-watering £325,000-a-week, a salary which Tottenham should go nowhere near.

Admittedly, Conte has proven to be able to get the best from Lukaku – the Belgian scored 64 goals in 95 games under the Italian at Inter Milan.

However, by the sounds of his passionate outburst after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley, Spurs can’t guarantee that Conte will stick around.

Therefore, the safest option is to ignore a move for Lukaku.
