Steve McManaman has stated that both Chelsea and Everton ‘need’ sought-after star Anthony Gordon after he scored for the Toffees in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was dubbed ‘the man of the moment’ by McManaman, with Manchester United even making a late move for the player, prior to the incoming arrival of Ajax star, Antony.

The 2022 summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday, but will Gordon still be on Merseyside or will he be in the capital later on this week?

Everton recorded a point at Brentford over the weekend and Frank Lampard’s side will now make the trip to Yorkshire to take on Leeds United on Tuesday night

Despite all this transfer talk about Gordon, the player has put his head down and grafted hard for his team, although there have been some reports that he would be willing to join Chelsea.

Either way, the England U21 international is doing his own talking on the field of play, as ex-Real Madrid midfielder McManaman praised the all-action speedster for his weekend performance, as he told Premier League Productions.

“Lovely finish from him, wasn’t it?!” said McManaman. “He is the man of the moment. Everton want to keep him. Chelsea want to buy him. Chelsea need him after their performance. Everton need him as well after this performance.”

GORDON SHOULD STAY PUT

Given that Chelsea are allowing Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave, yet willing to pay such big bucks for Gordon, when there isn’t much between them, screams of ‘do you know what you are doing?’.

Gordon is playing on a regular basis at Goodison Park, for his boyhood club, progressing each week and is still at a very early stage of his career.

It’s understandable if he wants to play Champions League football, but if he is good enough now, he will be even better two or three years down the line, so that dream of playing against the elite won’t go away.

The issue Gordon has is making that move too soon, Chelsea have just released Ross Barkley and his time at Stamford Bridge should be a big signal as to the mistake the rising Everton star could be making here.
