Chelsea are one of the favourites to sign Tottenham target Matthijs de Ligt, however, Juventus will only sell the defender if a club can meet his €120m (£100m) release clause.

According to Tuttosport via CalcioMercto, the west London side, along with FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG, are all keen on signing De Ligt this summer, though Juventus only want a club-record fee for the Netherlands international.

As per the report, the Bianconeri are desperate to keep hold of De Ligt this summer, however, they will have their hands tied if a club like Chelsea was to come in with a £100m offer for the defender, with Tottenham also interested in the former Ajax star.

As previously reported by CalcioMercato, Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are huge fans of De Ligt, and signing the Juventus centre-back would be a massive sign of intent for both Tottenham and the Italian duo.

However, Juventus’ sole requirement for a potential sale this summer could be well-beyond what Tottenham are capable of, with Daniel Levy’s shrewd business practices notorious in European football.

Indeed, even for a club like Chelsea or PSG, De Ligt would be a huge financial undertaking this summer, and for Tottenham, they simply won’t be able to meet Juventus’ demands for the Netherlands superstar.

Tottenham should pack in De Ligt dream after Juventus update

Signing De Ligt would be one of the most bombastic moves Tottenham ever pull off, yet with Juventus naming their stern demands for the defender, it is clear that a move from Spurs is more a work of fantasy than reality.

As mentioned, £100m is simply too tall an order for some of the biggest clubs in the world, let alone Tottenham, and this latest update from Juventus should push the north London side to other lofty targets ahead of the summer.
