Chelsea could reportedly make a late swoop to sign Inter Milan defender and rumoured Tottenham target Milan Skriniar, with the Slovakian international’s proposed move to PSG coming to a standstill.

According to Sky Italia, talks between Inter and the French giants have stalled with PSG looking to lower the €60m (£52m) asking price for Skriniar, with Julian Draxler being offered as potential player to lower the overall cost of the deal for Skriniar, who is now wanted by Chelsea following Tottenham’s long-standing interest in the centre-back.

The 27-year-old is regarded by many as one of the best defenders in Serie A and a world-class centre-back, which is why both Chelsea and Tottenham are looking to sign Skriniar, who looks set to leave Inter this summer regardless of which club comes in for the Slovakian.

Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a new defender this summer with Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon both set to leave north London, with Chelsea also in the market for new centre-backs with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both departing Stamford Bridge earlier in the month.

New club owner Todd Boehly is eager to make an instant impact with the west London side, with the American reportedly working on a deal to bring Raheem Sterling to Chelsea from Manchester City, another player who has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks.

Indeed, Skriniar would be a perfect defender for Tottenham to sign this summer, however, with Chelsea now looking to pounce on the centre-back and the club’s brilliant relationship with Inter, Spurs could be dead and buried when it comes to their attempts to land the 27-year-old.

Chelsea will feel confident in signing Skriniar over Tottenham and PSG

With money to spend and two gaping holes in their central defence needing to be filled, Chelsea will feel confident in their renewed interest in Skriniar, especially with PSG fumbling their attempt to sign the Slovakian and Tottenham seemingly twiddling their thumbs over any potential move.

The Blues will have to be ambitious this summer if they’re to instil optimism and hope into the supporters for next season, and the signing of Skriniar will do just that for the Premier League giants.
