It’s no secret that Chelsea have struggled to score goals this season in the Premier League and are struggling under Mauricio Pochettino.
HITC Football reported last week that Chelsea are exploring the possibility of signing a striker on a short-term deal following Christopher Nkunku’s latest injury setback.
As well as this, the club are not convinced by forward Nicolas Jackson despite the former Villarreal striker netting seven Premier League goals for the Blues this campaign.
HITC Football have now also reported that Juventus striker Moise Kean has been offered to both Chelsea and Manchester United. Erik ten Hag’s men need a striker but Kean could be the short-term deal they’ve been looking for.
Kean and Pochettino
During Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the Stade De France, Kean was one of the players who shone under the Argentine and a reunion would make a lot of sense.
One aspect of Kean’s game that Pochettino liked during his time at PSG was his positional flexibility. The Italian forward could line up on the left, the right or up front on his own.
“Today, Moise scored. He also scored in the cup [against Caen],” the former Tottenham boss said after the game when asked about Kean back in 2021 following his goal against OGC Nice.
“We are very happy with his services. He is able to play in different positions in attack, whether it is on the axis, on the right side or the left side.
“We are very happy with everything he does.”
The 23-year-old officially re-joined Juventus last summer and has made 12 appearances this season – six of them starts – and he is yet to score a goal in Serie A this term.
Kean has had spells at PSG, as mentioned, and Everton during Carlo Ancelotti’s time at the club but it certainly wasn’t a successful venture for the Italian as he netted just two goals and two assists in the Premier League.
Kean risk worth taking
There is certainly an element of risk for Chelsea to sign a striker who has failed to net in all of the appearances he has made for Juventus in the Serie A.
Nevertheless, Kean and Pochettino had a good relationship and the Argentine seemed to get the best out of the striker. He netted 13 goals in 26 Ligue 1 games in 2020-2021 and was in his groove under Pochettino.
Some of the names offered to the Blues are certainly left-field and represent a risk, so why not attempt to sign someone who the manager is familiar with?
