Chelsea are considering bringing in a striker as a short-term solution to their current injury problem, HITC Football understands.

As revealed earlier this week by HITC Football, we understand that Victor Osimhen remains Chelsea’s long-term priority but a deal won’t be happening this month.

The Napoli forward would cost north of £100 million following the new contract with the Italian side which he signed a few months ago.

Despite this, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now keen to assess the market and see if there are any short-term striker targets they could sign and sources have revealed a few names have been offered to the London side.

Chelsea keen on short term striker

Christopher Nkunku, who agreed to a move to Chelsea a year ago before eventually signing with the London club this summer from RB Leipzig, has struggled hugely with injury problems.

Another forward who Chelsea brought in this summer was Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson but the Senegalese striker has struggled for consistency and his seven Premier League goals have done little to convince the Blues hierarchy.

To that end, a new forward, on a short-term basis, will now be targeted sources have confirmed. It is now understood that Chelsea’s hierarchy have spoken with intermediaries to look at options that might be available to them.

Chelsea offered strikers

HITC Football also understands that VFB Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy is a player that Chelsea like but the forward’s participation in the Africa Cup Of Nations may well impact any serious pursuit of the Guinea forward.

Sources also believe that FC Twente’s Vangelis Pavlidis, Zenit St Petersburg’s Mateo Cassierra, Cercle Brugge’s Kevin Denkey and Atletico Mineiro’s Paulinho are amongst a host of names who have been offered to them this month.

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, who has scored 18 Eredivisie goals this season, is another striker who the Blues have looked at but sources have confirmed that paying £50 million or more for the Mexican is not possible for the London club, especially in January.

The Blues have scored 34 goals but sit in 10th place in the Premier League and certainly should have won more games than they have but their poor finishing has contributed to their current predicament in the division.

A new striker could solve some of these problems but another forward brought into the club would certainly not add to Jackson’s confidence in the Chelsea first team.
