Charlie Nicholas has told his Scottish Daily Express column that he thinks Rangers star Aaron Ramsey could come to the fore and sparkle on Sunday, as the Gers welcome Old Firm rivals Celtic to Ibrox in a crucial title clash.

Ramsey, 31, has only played six times for Rangers since joining the Glasgow side on loan from Juventus on deadline day. But the Wales ace started last time out for the Gers, scoring in a 2-1 win over Dundee – albeit a tap-in.

The midfielder continued his return to fitness with a superb display against Austria for Wales, in a World Cup play-off. Wales won 2-1, and Ramsey was superb – lasting the entire 95 minutes in Cardiff. He has since trained.

Ramsey is likely to be rested, or benched against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night – as confirmed by Rob Page. Nicholas thinks Ramsey could be the man to make the difference on Sunday, as Celtic prepare for Ibrox.

“I have a feeling Ramsey could come into the mix on Sunday. He has done well in his last two games for Rangers and Wales. I have seen enough of him in an Arsenal jersey to know he can cause problems on the big occasion.”

Nicholas on Ramsey: Rangers need their best players against Celtic

Celtic have the momentum. While Rangers are shining in Europe, Ange Postecoglou’s side look better more domestically and simply need to avoid defeat to remain top. Rangers need to win, and use Ibrox to their advantage.

Ramsey, at his best, is his loan side’s best player. But Ramsey is not the player he once was. Should he start against Celtic? Without a doubt, but Rangers will need him to be something that is close to his best form.
