Former Rangers keeper Aidan McAdams has completed a move to Championship side Ayr United, signing a two-year deal with Somerset Park club.

McAdams who came through Academy at Ibrox after moving from Old Firm rivals Celtic, was most recently at Morton and impressed at Cappielow.

While with the Ton, McAdams first linked up with current Ayr boss David Hopkin and the Honest Men’s gaffer was delighted to get a deal done for the 22-year-old shotstopper.

“Aidan had a great season for Morton so we are delighted to be able to get him, especially as he had several options,” Hopkin told Ayr‘s official website.

“He is a really good age at 22 and has a good future in the game. It is no surprise that he won every award going at Morton and we are certain that he will continue his development here.

“We made it one of our priorities to get a goalkeeper signed to the club as it has been loans for the last few years so we are really pleased to have signed Aidan for two years.”

Tough ask to make the breakthrough at Rangers

McAdams had stints on loan with Annan Athletic, Edinburgh City and NIFL Premiership side Portadown while on the books at Ibrox before leaving the Gers 12 months ago.

With the likes of Kieran Wright and Robby McCrorie also competiting for a place in the first-team squad, the former Rangers youngster has done well since moving on from Ibrox.

Ayr will be looking forward to return of Ayrshire derbies in the league for the first time in over 25 years following Kilmarnock’s relegation from the Premiership and McAdams will he hoping he can make a big impression for Hopkin’s side.
