Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle appear to have taken drastic steps to stop Rangers fans congregating outside Firhill on Monday night – erecting barriers to stop them watching the friendly clash from the nearby canal towpath.

Fans have often gathered on the path outside the ground to get a look in when big games are taking place at Firhill but it seems the visit of Rangers requires special treatment with the fences blocking any view of the pitch from outside.

Steven Gerrard’s side only have one pre-season game scheduled at Ibrox this summer, hosting Arsenal later this month, and fans are desperate to see the Scottish champions in action.

Gers fans have been locked out of games since March 2020, watching from home as the Light Blues lifted the club’s first title in a decade.

The scenes that followed as thousands of Rangers fans partied on the streets of Glasgow show how much the title win meant.

With the prospect of a friendly in Glasgow on Monday night, Thistle are avoiding any sizeable gathering of Rangers and Partick fans outside – with 1000 Jags fans being given access to the game.

Rangers have a massive summer ahead after winning 55

After winning the league, Rangers fans are hoping to see Steven Gerrard and his players continue their recent impressive European form and reach the Champions League group stages.

The Gers face two qualifying rounds to make it to the groups but will be confident after reaching the last 16 of the Europa League in successive seasons.

While it seems fans might have to wait a little bit longer to see Rangers in action, there is plenty for Bluenoses to get excited about for the coming season.
