KRC Genk chairman Peter Croonen admits Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye is likely to leave with Burnley reporting agreeing personal terms with the Premier League-bound playmaker.

Avid Eredivisie viewers will not be surprised to see one of the most underrated young attackers in European football get his big move to a big league.

Mike Tresor stood out with his poise and creativity for Willem II in the Netherlands. And he has only taken his game to an all-new level since crossing the border into Belgium. A tally of 24 assists in all competitions last season was better than the numbers put up by even the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Lionel Messi and more. In fact, only one player on the continent set up more goals than him in 2022/23.

Tresor, then, could be a real difference maker at a Burnley side who have scored just one goal in their two Premier League games so far.

Burnley close in on Genk star Mike Tresor

According to Het Laaste Nieuws, the two-time Belgium international has agreed personal terms with The Clarets. Genk director Dimitri de Conde confirmed that ‘negotiations with Burnley’ are ongoing in midweek, with chairman Peter Croonen now admitting that Tresor is likely to have played his final game for the Jupiler League challengers.

“As long as (the contract) has not been signed, then it is not a foregone conclusion. But it is more likely (than not) that he will no longer play for Genk,” Croonen tells Sporza.

“Tresor should still be the only one to leave. Although you never know until the end of the transfer window.”

Belgian legend Kompany has admired Tresor from afar for some time now. The admiration goes both ways, however, with Tresor as much a fan of Kompany as Kompany is a fan of Tresor.

“I have learned that he (Kompany) appreciates my qualities. Of course, that is nice to hear,” 24-year-old told Het Laatste Nieuws earlier in the summer.

“He plays with Burnley with a certain philosophy in which I would feel good. For me, playing style has always been important when choosing a club.”
