Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong has issued a positive update on the ongoing contract talks between the Bhoys and his representatives.

Armstrong is enjoying his best season yet since moving to Celtic Park in 2015, scoring 12 goals and creating another seven in 27 appearances.

The 24-year-old’s performances have brought mixed consequences, however, with Scotland handing him an international debut last week and Everton said to be keen on a summer move [Express].

Armstrong’s current deal expires in 15 months’ time, and were his situation fail to be resolved by the summer Celtic could find themselves under pressure to sell.

But the former Dundee United player told the Evening Times: “The club and my representatives are in negotiations and things seem to be going well.

“It has been a very good season and Brendan Rodgers has been great for me. He has come in and allowed me to play central midfield which has really developed my game so I’m in a good place at the moment and I just want to enjoy it.

“It was a long-held ambition of mine to play international football so it was a rewarding experience to do that on Sunday at Hampden. As I say, it is nice to be where I am at the minute but I know that the main thing for me is to focus on the football.”

Celtic can win their sixth straight Premiership title – and Armstrong’s third – when they travel to Hearts this weekend, although a win for Dundee against Aberdeen on Friday would be enough to crown the Bhoys champions.

Armstrong, though, would prefer his side to take care of their own business, rather than relying on a helping hand elsewhere.

“The only thing we can control is what we do ourselves,” he added. “We like to focus on what we do as a team and make sure that we go out and win three points. Obviously anything could happen at Dens Park and if it transpires that way then so be it, but our preparations will not be affected by that.”
