Sir Kenny Dalglish has written in The Sunday Post that he would rather be in Celtic’s position now rather than in the situation that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers find themselves in.

Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat to bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in midweek.

Van Bronckhorst’s side are now second in the Scottish Premiership table with 56 points from 24 matches, a point behind leaders Celtic.

Celtic legend Dalglish believes that the Hoops are in a better position now, but he has made it clear that Rangers can still win the Scottish Premiership title.

The pundit believes that Rangers, who won the league title last season, have to put together a run of positive results now.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “I was at Celtic Park on Wednesday night and the hosts fully deserved their victory to go top of the table.

“However, it’s still very, very close, and I wouldn’t necessarily say the Hoops have the edge just now.

“They are just a single point ahead of Rangers, and there are still 14 games to go and 42 points up for grabs. What I would say is that I’d rather be in Celtic’s position than anybody else’s.”

The pundit added: “But it is far from over, and Rangers will not give up their title easily.

“They will be hurting after that defeat, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst was clearly taken aback by the manner of it.

“The Light Blues have dropped seven points since the January break, so they must quickly shake off their winter blues.”

Rangers v Celtic title race

In our view, the Scottish Premiership title race between Rangers and Celtic is too close to call now.

Yes, Celtic eased past Rangers at Celtic Park in midweek, but the Gers will bounce back.

Moreover, we cannot really base how a season will pan out on one game.

Now, of course, we know that Rangers and Celtic do not tend to drop too many points.

So, the Old Firm derbies are of huge importance.

But, in our opinion, it is too early to make a call on the title race.
