Celtic are still searching for a new manager having seen Neil Lennon resign last week, and a host of names have been touted with joining the Bhoys.

One of the most exciting links has been with Jesse Marsch, with Bhoys fans hoping that the Red Bull Salzburg boss makes the move to Parkhead.

Last week, Marsch told BBC Sport of how honoured he was to be linked with the Celtic job, whilst Peter Lawwell is a known fan of the American.

Lawwell gave his personal backing to Marsch in 2017 when he went through the UEFA Pro-Licence course, and Celtic chiefs allegedly admire Marsch.

That all points towards Celtic moving for Marsch this summer, but their hopes have been left in limbo by Borussia Monchengladbach’s managerial situation.

Marsch is thought to be a leading candidate for the Gladbach job with Marco Rose heading to Borussia Dortmund, with Bild recently reporting their interest.

It looked like Celtic were receiving a huge boost in their pursuit of Marsch, as Bild reported on Monday that Gladbach were about to land Xabi Alonso as their new manager.

Yet less than 24 hours on, Kicker claim that Alonso won’t be Gladbach boss after all, meaning a move for Marsch is still very much possible.

If Celtic want Marsch, they need to get moving quickly, because the Alonso situation means they are now at risk of missing out.
