Celtic are interested in signing George Baldock from Sheffield United in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record.

What’s the story?

New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou wants to sign a right-back and has reportedly identified Baldock as a transfer target.

The 28-year-old English right-back is high on the list of transfer targets that the Australian boss wants.

Celtic looked at the right-back two years ago, and now he is back on their wishlist.

How good is George Baldock?

Baldock has been on the books of the Blades since 2017 and is a very good right-back.

The 28-year-old helped the Yorkshire club win promotion from the Championship and then did well in the Premier League.

The defender made 32 appearances in the Premier League for the Blades last season.

Baldock gave two assists in those games.

The right-back was once compared to George Best.

Yes, that George Best.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks was impressed by how Baldock, who had earlier set up Enda Stevens, scored against Norwich City in the 2-1 win in December 2019.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport in December 2019: “I wasn’t sure if it was George Baldock or George Best!

“I thought I was seeing things when I saw Baldock drag the ball back, pirouette and strike a glorious shot past Tim Krul.

“The finish – not to mention the skill – was superb along with Sheffield United’s performance.”
