Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic are interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to The Transfer Room.

Celtic linked with Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher

The report has claimed that defending Scottish Premiership champions are looking at Liverpool goalkeeper Kelleher as a potential long-term successor to Joe Hart.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has reportedly asked to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2023.

Although Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to keep the Republic of Ireland international, he will not force him to stay.

Klopp is a big fan of Kelleher, describing him as “absolutely insane” and “the best No.2 in the world” in The London Evening Standard in February 2022.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners, though, want as much as £30 million in transfer fees for Kelleher.

Leicester City are also interested in Kelleher, according to The Transfer Room, who have added that Celtic cannot pay the £30 million needed and will have to reduce the Reds’ asking price for the 24-year-old.

Summer transfer unlikely

In our view, it is unlikely that Celtic will be able to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

There is no way that the Hoops will spend £30 million on a single player.

Now, it will be interesting to see if any club actually pay what Liverpool want for him.

Kelleher is a very good goalkeeper who has the potential to get better, but he has limited experience in the Premier League.

A transfer fee of £30 million sounds a lot for the 24-year-old.
