Jurgen Klopp has hailed Liverpool’s League Cup hero Caoimhin Kelleher as the best no. 2 goalkeeper in the world after his performance against Chelsea.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, the German manager made the huge claim that the 23-year-old was the best back-up shot-stopper currently playing after Kelleher kept a clean sheet in Liverpool’s penalty shootout win against Chelsea in the League Cup.
The Republic of Ireland international impressed between the sticks in an entertaining contest at Wembley Stadium which saw Kelleher score the winning penalty in an 11-10 shootout victory for Liverpool.
It was only the third trophy the Reds have won under Klopp, however, it was a huge test to overcome Chelsea in a showpiece final in the English capital, especially why Thomas Tuchel’s side having three goals ruled out for offside.
Indeed, Liverpool were deserved winners on the night, and for Klopp, the Merseyside manager made the huge claim that Kelleher is currently the best no. 2 goalkeeper in football after his performance against Chelsea.
Klopp said: “Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world for me. There are a lot of good goalies but this goalie is absolutely insane. And Kelleher is the best No.2 in the world for me as well, especially for the way we play.”
Klopp’s claim is mad despite Kelleher’s display for Liverpool vs. Chelsea
The Cork-born keeper was the star of the show against Chelsea, yet despite winning the League Cup for Liverpool, Klopp’s claim that Kelleher is the best in the world is a bit far-fetched, to say the least.
After all, Kelleher has barely played 30 senior games in his entire career. And although the youngster has some serious potential, the Irishman has some way to go before he can be labelled as the best backup keeper in world football.
