Leeds are interested in Liverpool’s Ryan Kent, who Tony Mowbray once backed heavily.

Leeds United are taking an interest in signing Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, according to The Sun.

Kent has been plying his trade at Barnsley on loan, with the Whites interested in a summer deal for the 20-year-old.

One club who should take an interest also in his signature is Celtic, backed by Kent’s former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers was in charge at Liverpool when Kent was in the academy, and leaped onto his radar with a string of impressive performances.

He was quoted by This Is Anfield in 2015 stating: “Ryan is a young player who has done really, really well of late and he’s really maturing into a real talent.”

Since then the pair have had different paths, with Rodgers fired months later and replaced with Jurgen Klopp, and Kent sent out on loan.

Leeds United’s interest in Kent raises the topic of where his future may lie, and Rodgers would be shrewd to try and bring him to Celtic.

Rodgers need only point to the progress made by Moussa Dembele this season, who has swapped playing in the Championship for the Champions League, and become a much coveted star.

Leeds and Garry Monk can also offer Kent the chance to play in front of large crowds and arguably more competitive football week in and week out, but Rodgers’ past relationship with the player could give him an edge.

With the future of Manchester City loanee Patrick Roberts uncertain at Celtic and Gary Mackay-Steven failing to impress, there is an opportunity to bring fresh faces in, and Celtic will not be held back financially.

Kent is an outstanding prospect one it would be surprise if Rodgers was not keeping tabs on already.
