Celtic are chasing Moritz Jenz and are hoping to thrash out a loan deal for the Lorient defender – but a permanent clause isn’t sorted yet.

Most of the focus around Celtic is on Aaron Mooy right now, with the free agent midfielder seemingly set for a move to Parkhead.

That’s an exciting move for Celtic given that Mooy is a player with proven quality in the Premier League and even on the international stage.

Celtic’s other main target at the moment is a little more unknown, but is a player the Bhoys have wanted for a while now.

Celtic are chasing Moritz Jenz

Reports from French newspaper L’Equipe on Monday suggested that Lorient defender Jenz was on the verge of signing for Celtic.

The Bhoys were interested in Jenz last summer after shining with Lausanne-Sport over in Switzerland.

Lorient won the race but Jenz started just 16 league games last season and Celtic are sensing a window of opportunity.

Football Scotland now claim that Jenz is indeed closing in on a move to Celtic.

A season-long loan deal is expected to go through this week but Celtic are still discussing a potential permanent option with Lorient.

Having missed out last summer, you can understand why Celtic would now like to make sure that Jenz has the chance of a long-term future at Parkhead.

The 23-year-old would be signed as competition for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt in the heart of Celtic’s back line.

That may not sound like more playing time than he is receiving at Lorient, but Celtic can offer a title challenge and Champions League football.

That will surely appeal to Jenz, who can now reunite with his former Fulham teammate Matt O’Riley in Glasgow.

The German defender is a powerful player at 6ft 3in and impressed in 1v1 defending during his time in Switzerland.

A deal with Celtic now seems close, but thrashing out a permanent clause seems to be a big hurdle for the Bhoys to clear.
