Celtic are set to sign Moritz Jenz from Lorient having chased the centre back’s signature during last summer’s transfer window.

The Bhoys have secured Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis to make sure he continues to partnership with Carl Starfelt.

Christopher Jullien seems set for the exit though and one defender they showed an interest in – Ben Davies – is now off to Rangers.

Celtic still want another central defender and appear to be closing in on a player they have wanted for a year.

Celtic are set to sign Moritz Jenz

French newspaper L’Equipe report that Lorient defender Moritz Jenz is on his way to sign for Celtic.

The report doesn’t disclose a free but Jenz is seemingly heading for Scotland after a frustrating year in France.

Jenz, 23, joined Lorient from Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland last summer but only started 16 Ligue 1 games.

The report claims Jenz is now looking to ‘relaunch’ his career in Scotland by finally signing for Celtic.

The Herald noted last summer that Celtic were interested in signing Jenz having scouted him in action for Lausanne-Sport for some time.

Lorient swooped in and managed to beat Celtic to Jenz’s signature back then, but the German will finally make the move to Parkhead after all.

Jenz stands at 6ft 3in tall and is a very strong central defender and has shown that he is quick, aggressive and strong in the tackle.

Jenz was previously on the books at Fulham and was in their ranks alongside Matt O’Riley, meaning they can now reunite at Celtic.

It seems that Celtic continued to keep tabs on Jenz even after missing out last summer and now feel there is a window of opportunity to secure his signature.

Jenz will primarily serve as cover for Carter-Vickers and Starfelt but Ange Postecoglou will no doubt hope to coach him up given the untapped potential he holds at just 23.
