Celtic wanted Mario Vuskovic last summer but the defender could now end up joining Kristoffer Ajer at Brentford this summer.
Celtic’s transfer business in 2021 will largely go down as a huge success.
Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi were just some of the new arrivals that helped Celtic win the Scottish Premiership title.
Celtic even helped goalkeeper Joe Hart get his career back on track with Ange Postecoglou and co overseeing a superb window.
There were some players that Celtic missed out on though and one of them now looks set for the Premier League.
Celtic wanted Mario Vuskovic
Celtic were preparing for Kristoffer Ajer’s departure last summer and were searching for new central defenders.
One of the names in the mix was Croatian talent Mario Vuskovic.
The Scottish Sun reported that Celtic had opened talks with Hajduk Split over a potential £5million deal for Vuskovic having scouted him on numerous occasions.
Vuskovic instead went and joined Hamburg on loan before turning the move permanent in March.
The 20-year-old excelled in Germany’s second tier and now seems to have done enough to attract major Premier League interest.

Hamburger Morgenpost report that Brentford are now pushing to sign Vuskovic this summer as they seek a new centre back.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen and it looks like Hamburg may now be able to spin a quick profit on the Croatian defender.
The irony of this is that, should Vuskovic make the move to Brentford, he would be playing alongside Ajer – the man Celtic were selling last summer.
Brentford secured Ajer last summer and may now look to add another quality young defender in Vuskovic.
These are the sliding doors moments in the transfer market; a year ago Vuskovic would have been heading to Celtic to replace Ajer, yet now he could be set to join the Norwegian in a big Premier League move.
