Celtic are releasing Luca Connell – and Scott Brown now wants to lure him back to England with a summer move to Fleetwood Town.

Celtic fended off major competition back in the summer of 2019 to bring Connell up to Parkhead.

The midfielder has emerged as a real prospect with Bolton Wanderers, leading to goalkeeper Remi Matthews branding him a ‘big, big talent’.

Celtic were more than happy to pay £350,000 in compensation to bring Connell to Scotland, seemingly believing that had landed Scott Brown’s heir.

Yet whilst the Liverpudlian is a combative midfielder just like Brown was, he hasn’t been able to enjoy the same Celtic career.

Celtic are releasing Luca Connell

Connell never made his first-team debut for Celtic, and he is now being released by the Bhoys as reported by the Daily Record.

Celtic had an option to extend Connell’s contract by a year but have instead decided to let him go for nothing.

That’s despite the fact that Connell went on loan to Queen’s Park this past season and racked up seven goals and five assists in 27 league outings.

Celtic may be letting Connell this summer but that doesn’t mean he isn’t wanted elsewhere.

The Scottish Sun now report that Scott Brown wants to bring Connell to Fleetwood Town.

Celtic hero Brown has taken his first steps into management this summer by taking over as Fleetwood boss.

Brown now wants to pounce by taking Connell to Fleetwood on a free transfer.

Brown has already used his influence to bring Celtic-mad defender Shaun Rooney to Fleetwood on a free transfer.

Having seen Connell first-hand at Celtic, Brown could now offer him a much-needed lifeline as he faces up to being a free agent.

This would also allow Connell to return to the North West of England having been born in Liverpool and then on the books at .

That could be perfect for Connell, who will be desperate to kick on and show that Celtic have made a mistake.
