Sir Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on Allan McGregor.

Despite having turned 39 last month, the Rangers keeper is as formidable a presence between the sticks as ever and shows no sign of slowing down.

He’s been a crucial part of the Ibrox side’s title charge, keeping yet another clean sheet on Saturday as Steven Gerrard’s men beat Kilmarnock 1-0.

It was his reaction to the previous weekend’s less satisfactory result, however, that has drawn praise from Dalglish.

The Celtic and Liverpool legend watched McGregor concede an own goal in the final seconds of injury time as Hamilton Accies held Rangers to a 1-1 draw, but the keeper had already been named Man of the Match after denying the hosts on several occasions.

Cameras captured McGregor berating his team-mates in the aftermath, and Dalgish believes Gerrard will have appreciated that reaction.

Writing in his Sunday Post column, he said: “The way the defence has performed has been admirable. If you keep regular clean sheets, then you know you’ll get a at least a point from every game.

Allan McGregor deserves much credit. He has been in brilliant form, and was so again last weekend in the 1-1 draw at Hamilton Accies.

“After the game, he let rip at the level of his team’s performance, and his honesty was commendable.

“But it’s worth remembering that it’s impossible to be bang on it every single week.

That said, I’m sure Steven would have been pleased to see Allan being so forthright.

“It was a timely reminder to the whole squad at the stage of the campaign where nobody inside Ibrox will want to take anything for granted.

“They have worked very, very hard this season, and they are close to it all being rewarded in the best possible way.”

Rangers have conceded just eight goals in 29 Premiership matches this season.
