Not so long ago, what was supposed to be the most important summer in Celtic’s recent history looked set to pass the club by, an era-defining rebuilding project moving along brick by brick.

But since snapping up Liel Abada in a shock deal from Maccabi Petah Tikva in mid-July, the floodgates have opened.

Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Carl Starfelt and Kyogo Furuhashi have all arrived since then – and it seems Ange Postecoglou will soon be ticking another task off his summer to-do list.

According to Sky Sports, Josip Juranovic is keen on a move to Celtic.

And with Legia Warsaw demanding just £2.5 million for the Croatia international, the Hoops can solve those long-standing right-back problems for a fraction of the fee they would have had to pay for the likes of Aurelio Buta, Valentin Rosier or George Baldock.

But don’t assume affordability equals mediocrity.

Josip Juranovic tipped to become next Celtic signing

As he showed during Euro 2020 – particularly during Croatia’s 3-1 triumph over Scotland at Hampden Park – Juranovic is a diligent, disciplined defender, not to mention a big attacking threat at the other end.

Inch-perfect crosses from the right have become his trademark in Warsaw. Since the start of last season, Juranovic has set up ten assists for his teammates – more than Buta, Rosier and Baldock.

According to Polish publication Sport, Legia Warsaw are set to sell Juranovic after losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League qualifiers.

Celtic are reported to have had a £2.5 million bid accepted.

And if Juranovic can emulate the immediate impact Abada and Furuhashi have made at Parkhead, that £2.5 million fee will soon look like a snip.

Here’s what some Celtic fans on Twitter had to say about the situation:
