Celtic fans didn’t exactly love Jeremy Toljan, but the defender could now land himself a stunning move to Bayern Munich.

Calciomercato report that Bayern are eyeing up Toljan as a potential summer signing to replace Bouna Sarr.

Bayern want a backup right back behind Benjamin Pavard, and Sassuolo star Toljan is a chief target for the role.

To say this would stun Celtic fans would be an understatement.

Cast your mind back to 2019. Celtic are chasing another league title and Brendan Rodgers is seeking major new signings.

What actually happened will go down as one of the stranger Celtic transfer windows in recent memory.

Marian Shved and Vakoun Issouf Bayo were barely seen in Celtic shirts whilst Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez weren’t for the first team.

Celtic moved into the loan market, striking a surprise deal for Oliver Burke and taking a punt on Timothy Weah.

In came defender Toljan too, who had shown potential with Hoffenheim before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Toljan, 27, didn’t exactly fare much better at Celtic. After a dismal showing against Rangers in May 2019, Celtic fans tore into the right back.

Celtic unsurprisingly didn’t want to keep Toljan, and he instead joined Sassuolo on a two-year loan.

That deal was turned permanent last summer, but it seems that he has attracted lofty interest from Bayern.

Every club has that loan player who looked awful on loan but went on to great things, and Toljan could end up being Celtic’s this summer.
