Celtic want Jani Atanasov from Hajduk Split with Ange Postecoglou once again being linked with a mother international midfielder.
The Bhoys have enjoyed a strong window so far and could still add new faces before the deadline.
Loanees Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers have signed permanently whilst Benjamin Siegrist, Moritz Jenz, Alexandro Bernabei and Aaron Mooy have all arrived.
That’s a very positive window for Celtic but with dreams of a title win and a strong Champions League campaign, more signings may still be wanted.
Celtic want Jani Atanasov
We have seen links to Rubin Kazan winger Sead Haksabanovic in recent days, and now it’s Hajduk Split star Jani Atanasov.
Sky Sports claim that Celtic are chasing Atanasov alongside a deal for wide man Haksabanovic.
This comes after Mak Fudbal in North Macedonia reported that Celtic are expected to make an official bid for Atanasov in the coming days.
They describe Atanasov as an ‘excellent’ midfielder and claim that Celtic are ‘seriously interested’ in him.
Atanasov, 22, featured for Akademija Pandev – yes, named after, founded by and owned by Goran Pandev – before signing for Turkish side Bursaspor in 2018.
That spell in Turkey didn’t go too well for Atanasov but he has got his career back on track since joining Hajduk Split in 2020.
A holding midfielder at 6ft 2in tall, Atanasov mostly protects the back four but has been known to score the odd goal too.
Nir Bitton offered a similar presence in midfield but has left Celtic this summer, meaning Atanasov could be a replacement.
Celtic do have other midfielders in their ranks; Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Yosuke Ideguchi, David Turnbull and new signing Mooy are all at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal.
Atanasov offers something a little different though and Celtic could now move for the North Macedonia star.
