Celtic are interested in Benjamin Siegrist and have now made contact with his representatives ahead of a potential deal.

The Bhoys have yet to get moving with incoming deals this summer but will be in the market for reinforcements.

Vasilis Barkas departed for Utrecht earlier this week, meaning Celtic’s goalkeeping ranks have been hit slightly even if the Greek international wasn’t a regular.

Ange Postecoglou may now want another goalkeeper to support Joe Hart and Scott Bain, with Siegrist emerging as the top target.

Celtic are interested in Benjamin Siegrist

Reports of Celtic’s renewed interest in signing Siegrist emerged late on Tuesday night.

The Daily Mail reported that Celtic were keen to land Siegrist on a free transfer with his Dundee United contract coming to an end.

The Daily Record now state that Celtic have already ramped up their move for the Swiss goalkeeper by contacting his representatives.

Preston North End and Blackpool are also allegedly keen on Siegrist but Celtic are now pushing for a deal.

Siegrist, 30, has been watched by Celtic scouts for a long time and the Bhoys are now making their move.

The former Aston Villa stopper became a fan favourite at Tannadice, shining after a 2018 move from Vaduz.

Siegrist has been outstanding in Scotland and has been praised as ‘brilliant’ by pundit and former Celtic ace Chris Sutton.

Sutton could now end up seeing goalkeeper Siegrist in a Hoops shirt very soon with the Bhoys making their move.

Preston or Blackpool may be able to offer a first-choice role to Siegrist but Celtic’s big selling points are Champions League action and a title challenge.

Those are appealing to any player and Siegrist will surely take the Bhoys’ approach into consideration even if he would have to compete with Joe Hart for playing time.
