Celtic are reportedly ‘very close’ to signing Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden after the Scottish Premiership champions submitted a bid of just over £4 million.

After drawing a blank for the second game in a row last weekend – held to a stalemate at home to St Johnstone after crashing out of the Scottish League Cup against Aberdeen – Celtic are making a concerted effort to give Brendan Rodgers the ammunition he needs, the Hoops trading in their Bazooka for sticks and stones in recent outings.

Luis Palma – a player so heavily linked with Old Firm rivals Rangers this summer – is on his way from Aris.

“Luis Palma has been involved in almost every goal we have scored so far this season. So, of course, he will be a big loss,” sighs Aris coach Apostalos Terzis of the right-footed left winger who should go a long way to offsetting the departure of the talismanic Jota.

“I want to wish him the best of luck with his new club, Celtic. He worked so hard for our team and Aris also helped him a lot to develop.”

Celtic reportedly make Mathias Kvistgaarden bid

Palma could strike up a potentially devastating partnership with Mathias Kvistgaarden too. Presuming Rodgers can successfully integrate two new faces into his misfiring frontline, of course.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Celtic have submitted a £4.2 million bid for the Brondby striker. They are supposedly now just ‘one step away’ from reaching an agreement.

Kvistgaarden has come on leaps and bounds over in Denmark; adding a creative streak to his game while developing into an impressive all-round centre-forward. The 21-year-old scored 10 goals and set up four more last term, while his ferocious pressing and work ethic only adds to his appeal.

Kvistgaarden’s potential arrival comes after an injury to fellow forward Oh Hyeon-Gyu, though the South Korean poacher could yet return sooner than expected from a calf problem.

According to South Korea coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Oh could be fit to feature in the friendly clashes next month. His side take on Wales and Saudi Arabia in early September.

“Oh Hyeon-gyu is on the (to be called up),” Klinsmann says, via Glasgow Times. “Because he indicated to me he will be fit enough to play in both of the games.”
