The pressure isn’t going away for Mauricio Pochettino and it’s still growing following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at Brentford on Saturday

At the break, even though Chelsea were only 1-0 up, they were in control and it felt like three points were going to be registered.

Thomas Frank’s side simply weren’t at it, and then, during the second period, it all turned on its head and by the 69th minute the home team were ahead. The story of Chelsea’s season!

Chelsea then pushed to get something out of the game, with Axel Disasi saving his team from further embarrassment, but Tim Sherwood wasn’t impressed with his actions.

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss pointed out how the £39 million signing celebrated his goal and mocked him for doing so against a team ‘who can’t beat anyone and are really struggling’, as he told Premier League Productions (02/03/24 at 5:20 pm).

It also needs to be noted that Brentford’s entire backline is out injured, on top of the fact that the team is hovering above the relegation zone.

But, as Tim Sherwood pointed out, it proves where Chelsea are right now and the ‘inconsistent’ nature of their game.

Axel Disasi criticised

“Talking of inconsistent,” said Sherwood of Chelsea’s draw at Brentford.

“Good and bad (On Disasi having a say in both boxes). Celebrating like that, a last-gasp equaliser against Brentford, a team who can’t anyone and are really struggling.

“It shows where Chelsea are, at the moment. So inconsistent. They need to get a grip of it because, at the moment, that isn’t good enough for a team you spent so much money on.”

Chelsea’s struggles continue

Lost the League Cup final. Sitting 11th in the table. With a billion-pound squad showing no signs of improvement.

Forget about Champions League football, this is set to be another season without European football for the London club.

Just imagine what that does to the team, from a financial perspective, it could prove to be very, very costly down the line.

All in all, it doesn’t bode well for Pochettino, who probably wasn’t even first-choice, from the fans’ point of view, when he was appointed in the summer.
