Todd Boehly’s tenure so far at Chelsea is proof that you can have all the money in the world, but it’s not going to amount to any success.

When the American businessman took over the reins at Stamford Bridge, the club had just won the Champions League and were probably deemed the third-best team in the Premier League.

Fast forward to the present and Chelsea are now a bonafide bottom-half Premier League side and are yet to add to their European Cup, even though over a billion pound has been spent.

A lot of young talent has come through the doors, and so far, not many can hold their heads up high, but according to Tim Sherwood, there is one.

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss feels Cole Palmer is ‘proving his worth’ at Chelsea and is the only one who has been a top signing under Todd Boehly’s stewardship, as he told Premier League Productions (26/02/24 at 2:15 pm).

Despite winning the Treble in the colours of Manchester City, he opted to leave and secure a £40 million move to Chelsea.

To have 16 Premier League goal involvements from 22 matches is some going given the indifferent nature of Cole Palmer’s team.

Cole Palmer signing at Chelsea

“Look at them Chelsea players, it doesn’t look like any of them are worth that they have been spent,” said Sherwood.

“Maybe Cole Palmer. Possibly. He is a good player. I think he went for the right reasons, he wanted more game time, he is getting the game time now and he is proving his worth. I can’t say that for any other signing.”

Building the team around Cole Palmer

One major issue Mauricio Pochettino is facing right now is that he doesn’t know his best XI, with lack of form, performances, goals, experience and injuries all playing their part.

But Palmer is certainly one of the first, if not the first names on the team sheet.

That should be seen as a big plus because, when he is in full flow, he connects the rest of the forward line together, it’s just now a case of adding in the rest of the pieces.

It doesn’t help that Christopher Nkunku continues to face injury problems because he can partly help with the club’s goalscoring issues.

But Chelsea fans might have to wait until next season to see the Frenchman link up with Palmer because he has picked up another knock.
