When did Arsenal last win at Anfield? It has been a long time since the Gunners last experienced a Premier League victory over Liverpool on Merseyside.

You would have to go back to September 2012 for Arsenal’s last Premier League win at Anfield, where a side marshalled by Mikel Arteta in midfield defeated a Liverpool side led by Brendan Rodgers.

How Arsenal’s XI looked last time they won at Anfield

Well, only Arteta and Per Mertesacker remain from the Arsenal side who last won a Premier League game at Anfield.

However, it was so long ago that both now find themselves in managerial roles at the Emirates Stadium, with the German currently Academy Manager at Hale End while the Spaniard leads the first-team.

Wenger’s side were inspired by the arrivals of Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski at Anfield back in September 2012.

The pair each scored their first goals for Arsenal to secure a 2-0 win, after Cazorla was signed in a £15m deal from Malaga and Podolski arrived in a £10.9m move from FC Köln.

Interestingly, the Spaniard and the German also assisted each other for their goals as Arsenal put Liverpool to the sword.

Some will also recall that Abou Diaby delivered a midfield masterclass alongside Arteta in the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, as Cazorla, Podolski, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud did the business in attack.

The Frenchman was imperious in midfield, winning four tackles and embarking on three dribbles while also completing 91% of his passes in a phenomenal display – as shown by WhoScored.

Cazorla – lining up in a No.10 role – was also incredible in this particular game, registering three key passes, four shots and two tackles along with his goal as he announced himself to the Arsenal fans.

Arteta will surely have fond memories of that day, although he will undoubtedly want to end Arsenal’s dreadful record in the Premier League at Anfield with a landmark victory on Sunday.
