Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has delivered an update on reported Liverpool target Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Napoli defender looks set to leave Naples this summer as Aurelio De Laurentis has lowered his asking price so that he can cash in on him.
McGarry reports that his asking price is now half of what it was last summer.
“Aurelio De Laurentis is willing to take a knockdown price for the defender and will cash in on him. He was available for €90m last summer, but we understand that a fee of €60m and perhaps even as little as €45m would be enough to secure his services. We know that Manchester United are interested and also Liverpool, but Liverpool have cooled their interest somewhat,” McGarry said.
This is certainly interesting, and while he says Liverpool have cooled their interest, it’s worth noting that only a few weeks ago McGarry was reporting that Liverpool had made an informal offer for him.
“They have had a long-standing interest in the Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, which we have reported on the podcast in detail over the podcast in the past year. It is our understanding that an informal offer to begin with of €40m plus add-ons has been made for the player who is certainly available,” McGarry said.
With Koulibaly now being available for just €5m more than they offered a few weeks ago, it would make sense for Liverpool to look to go back into him, especially after their move for Ibrahima Konate hit a speedbump this week.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
