Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports Football (5:46pm, April 12, 2021) that Dannys Ings is in “conundrum” amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
According to Eurosport, Tottenham are interested in signing Ings from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2021.
The Athletic reported in February that City are looking at securing the services of the England international striker.
Former Liverpool striker Carragher, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that the 28-year-old has a big decision to make in the summer of 2021.
Carragher said about Ings on Sky Sports Football (5:46pm, April 12, 2021): “It is almost that awkward thing where Danny Ings is the top player, if you like, for Southampton.
“If he made that move, it would be tough for him to play week in week out for a Champions League team. There is always that conundrum for a player, ‘Do you want to play every week and be the star man, or maybe go to a team in the Champions League?’ That’s maybe the conundrum he has got right at this minute.”
Leaving Southampton for Tottenham Hotspur?
Ings has been superb for Southampton since he moved from Premier League rivals Liverpool for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £20 million.
The 28-year-old England international striker has scored nine goals and provided four assists in the Premier League so far this season, and scored 22 goals and gave two assists in the league in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.
The striker had injury problems at Liverpool and could not make a massive impact, but he could be tempted by a move to Spurs.
True, it is not guaranteed that Tottenham will finish in the Premier League top four and Harry Kane may not leave in the summer, but a move to the North London club from the Saints would be a step-up for the Englishman.
