The Tottenham Hotspur manager is now widely considered to be one of the world’s best.

Jamie Carragher of Liverpool competes with Nikica Jelavic of Everton during the Barclays Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield on May 5, 2013 in Liverpool, England.

When writing his regular column for the Telegraph, Jamie Carragher offered high praise for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, but did make a worrying comparison between the Argentine and his idol Marcelo Bielsa.

Pochettino has worked wonders during his time in charge of Tottenham, guiding his side to a third and second placed finish in the last two seasons.

The Lilywhites are now considered to be genuine challengers for both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, but the biggest question that the Argentine and his players still have to answer is, do they have the mentality to win a major trophy?

And that is a question that Jamie Carragher believes is a valid one.

LOSC Lille coach Marcelo Bielsa looks on before the pre-season friendly match between Atalanta BC and LOSC Lille at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia on July 26, 2017 in Bergamo, Italy.

The former Liverpool ace explained how Pochettino’s mentor Marcelo Bielsa also found it incredibly hard to actually win things, despite having his theories and philosophies lauded worldwide, when writing his column for the Telegraph:

“Pochettino is changing our perception of Spurs by following the tradition of his compatriot and mentor Marcelo Bielsa. He has absorbed Bielsa’s ideas but he is yet to shrug off one of the more unwelcome habits of his teacher. Speak to any coach inspired by Bielsa and they will lavish praise, but his honours list is modest. He has never won a major trophy in Europe, and his last title was in Argentina in 1998.”

The 45-year-old obviously has a very good chance to succeed where his idol failed, with such a strong group of players available to him.

One thing is for sure though, Spurs will have to win something sooner rather than later, otherwise the squad as a whole will lose confidence in their own ability to achieve greatness.
