Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have the best defensive records in the Premier League.
When writing his regular column for the Daily Mail, Jamie Carragher raved about the positive impact that David Luiz has had on the Chelsea side since his arrival in the summer, and suggested that he must now be classed in the same bracket as Spurs pair Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

The Brazilian’s £34 million move back to Stamford Bridge took many people by surprise, but he has gone on to prove his critics and doubters wrong, in emphatic fashion.
Chelsea’s David Luiz
The 29-year-old has been the heartbeat of the Chelsea backline, and his play has been of such consistency and quality that he has kept Blues legend John Terry out of the side for pretty much the entire season.
And when writing his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher explained how Luiz has shocked him by his standards of performance, and that he must now be considered alongside Tottenham’s defensive duo:
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld in action
“Conte got to work and came up with the system that is propelling Chelsea to the title and has turned Luiz into one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers. Last season I regarded Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as the best central defenders in the Premier League but such has been Chelsea’s defensive improvement — both teams have conceded only 16 goals — you have to put Luiz right up there.”
Rio Ferdinand’s Premier League title verdict
Luiz has always been known for his cavalier attitude, but under Conte, he seems to have curtailed his natural tendencies, and is most definitely a more complete defender now than he has ever been.
And if Chelsea go on to win the league, the signing of the Brazilian will surely go down as one of the best transfer coups in recent history.
