Jamie Carragher has said the difference in quality between the Man City and Arsenal bench is huge, as Pep Guardiola’s substitutions won his side the game against Chelsea.
Both Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish came off the bench in tandem and made the difference for City, with the former tapping the ball into the back of the net after a superb assist from the latter.
Gary Neville was one of the many who pointed out how Arsenal had little to no impact players that Mikel Arteta could bring on to change the game in their 0-0 draw against Newcastle United.
As a result, the Gunners only brought on Takehiro Tomiyasu against Newcastle, with zero attacking changes made to turn the game on its head.
Man City, on the other hand also brought on Rico Lewis and Manuel Akanji, apart from Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez, who were also top-class in their 1-0 victory against Chelsea.
And Carragher has now made an interesting observation.
Jamie Carragher says there is a ‘huge’ gulf in class between Man City and Arsenal bench

Jamie Carragher has said that there is a ‘big difference’ in quality between the Man City and Arsenal bench, as the former were inspired by substitutes to beat Chelsea 1-0.
During commentating for Sky Sports, Carragher first pointed out, “There was criticism of Arsenal the other night [against Newcastle] about having nothing from the bench to change the game.”
“That is the big difference when you look at Manchester City.”
He continued, “The difference between this [the Man City bench] and what we saw at Arsenal was huge in terms of the quality they can bring off the bench.”
“That’s what won it [Man City the game against Chelsea.”
What Jamie Carragher has observed is undeniable, as the Man City bench is on a complete different level to options Arsenal have at their disposal.
