Carlos Alcaraz has previewed Spain’s chances at the football World Cup next year.
Alcaraz is a six-time tennis Grand Slam champion, and is the current world number one player on the ATP Tour.
However, tennis is not the only sport that the Spaniard enjoys, as Alcaraz also enjoys football, golf and Formula One.
Alcaraz recently played tennis with Ronaldo Nazário at an exhibition event in Miami, and he has now reacted to Spain’s draw for the 2026 football World Cup.

There were a lot of eyes on football World Cup draw on Friday, as 48 nations were placed into 12 groups for the tournament taking place in USA, Canada and Mexico next year.
One of those nations was 2010 champions Spain, who Murcian Alcaraz had a keen eye on when they were drawn into Group H.
Joining Spain in Group H are two-time champions Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, a draw that Alcaraz appeared happy about when asked about the draw by Overtime Tennis.
He said, “I like it, I like it, I believe in a good tournament.”
Alcaraz was then asked if there were any countries he does not want to see Spain come up against, to which he named four nations, but particularly highlighted France as a big threat.
“France, Argentina, Netherlands, Portugal, there are a few that are really tough ones,” said Alcaraz. “For me, I think the most one is France.”
When could Spain play France at the 2026 football World Cup?
Spain and France are two of the favourites to win the World Cup next year, and due to their respective seedings are unlikely to play one another until the latter stages of the tournament.
If they were both to qualify from their respective groups in the top two places as expected, Spain and France will not play each other until at least the semifinal.
However, if one of Spain or France wins the group and the other finishes as runner-up then they will not meet unless both reach the final.
| World Cup 2026 Scenarios | When Spain and France could play |
| If both Spain and France win their groups | Semifinal |
| If Spain win their group and France are runners-up | Final |
| If France win their group and Spain are runners-up | Final |
| If both Spain and France are runners-up in their groups | Semifinal |
This will likely be music to the ears of Alcaraz, who appears to see two-time world champions France as Spain’s biggest threat.
The 2026 World Cup gets underway on June 11, with Spain playing their first group match against Cape Verde on June 15.
