Cardi B is set to add another layer of spectacle to Game 3 of the NBA Finals, on a night already carrying Donald Trump-sized attention at Madison Square Garden.

The New York Knicks’ first home Finals game in 27 years was already going to feel bigger than a normal playoff night. With the Knicks up 2-0 on the San Antonio Spurs, the Garden is walking into a rare mix of championship pressure, celebrity energy, and heightened security.

Trump’s planned attendance has made the evening even more unusual, but the halftime booking adds its own twist because of who will be performing while the president is in the building.

Cardi B set for halftime role at New York Knicks vs San Antonio Spurs Game 3

TMZ reported Cardi B’s special role for Game 3 of the NBA Finals as the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs meet at Madison Square Garden.

“Cardi B is making the first NBA Finals game in New York City in 27 years even more epic … TMZ has confirmed she’s performing at Game 3,” the TMZ report revealed.

“A source tells us the ‘WAP’ singer will be the star of the halftime show Monday night when the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs head to the locker room,” it added.

The booking makes sense from a New York standpoint. Cardi B is one of the city’s biggest entertainment figures, and a Knicks Finals night at MSG is the kind of stage built for a local superstar.

It also adds to a night already expected to be packed with celebrities, heavy security, and national attention beyond the basketball court.

Cardi B and Donald Trump create strange NBA Finals contrast in New York

The strange part is the political contrast. Cardi B has been an outspoken critic of Trump, using interviews and social media over the years to challenge his politics, immigration stance, and leadership style.

That makes the optics unusual, even if there is no sign her performance is connected to him. Trump is attending as a high-profile guest and longtime Knicks fan, while Cardi B is there as the halftime star for a historic New York sports night.

The overlap still changes the feel of the event. Trump’s presence has already led to tighter security, canceled outdoor watch-party plans, and a more complicated game-night setup around Madison Square Garden.

Cardi B’s performance gives the night a hometown celebration, but with Trump in the building, it also becomes another reminder that Game 3 is operating at the intersection of sports, celebrity, politics, and New York chaos.
